Gym Light Bulbs Blamed for Sore Eyes or “A Light for Sore Eyes”
Metal Halide lamps are great light sources for large areas, but pose risks when damaged. Their inner core creates the light, but in addition to the regular visible spectrum it creates a lot of dangerous ultra violet radiation. It is the job of the external bulb to filter this out. Should that outer bulb be damaged you are exposing your people to an unknown danger.
If you have any lights like this in your building you need to protect them, and should they be damaged then quickly replace them. It might even be worth going for the self-extinguishing variety.
