Camera Clock
![]()
One problem with security cameras is that they look like security cameras. Most covert ones either have a problem with recorder setup or power (hey, why does that stuffed bear have a power cord?).
The Sharper Image is selling a Security Camcorder Clock. It is a real clock with plausible power supply and motion recording to internal memory. The built in memory is pathetic (64MB / 12 Min), but most cameras have a litlte bit of onboard memory that assists the camera while the real recording to a removable memory card.
The info states 90 minutes on a 512MB card, so 3 hours on a 1GB or 6 on a 2MB (although I am assuming it takes the larger size too). Fortunately this does not count the time when nothing is happening and nothing is recording. No audio (which fits in with laws of some jurisdictions), but audio on a device like this would be horrible anyway. It will run on AA batteries (4 for the camera and 2 for the clock) to give even greater reliability.
So, what’s the use in a church?
- Catch the kids who sneak into a classroom to draw dirty pictures on the white boards.
- Find out who has been stealing food from the kitchen.
- Discover who has been “borrowing” your tape dispenser or big red swingline stapler.
- Keep an eye on the the office after hours.
This would also be good if you were paranoid about the housekeeping staff during your next vacation. Just remember to turn it to the wall when you are back in.
