Flashlight DVR

Swann Flashlight DVRThis has been getting publicity the last week or so, but I have not been able to find any real non-blog information about it. The item is a flashlight camera from Swann Security.

According to D-Vice (and several others), the Swann Flashlight DVR is reported to record video and stills to SD memory cards while also serving as a flashlight, truncheon, and siren for only $400.

MII-Flashcam

Not a revolutionary new product, but definitely lower than some of the other equipment out there like the MII-Flashcam (Warning: Noisy Website) which comes in around $1200.

The MII-Flashcam has a much more professional appearance to it, and seems to be more usable and of higher quality. But, for $900 you could buy two more of the Swanns and get more out there.

DM-FLASH-DVRAnd then there is the DM-Flash-DVR. I know almost nothing about this, but what tech nerd would love to tell people that they have Linux on their flashlight? This camera looks better suited to being just kept in place. It should have more than the 512MB of onboard memory, but that does give you 3.5 hours. At a price $1,245 it may not be the best option out there.

So, opinion time, do you see any use for a flashlight camera? Would you rather just have night vision?
